Sherly M. Daceus, PsyD

I was once asked in an interview, “If you could be any inanimate object, what would you be and why?”

My response was “A bed. You know how you’ve had one of those really long days when nothing seemed to go right and you just wanna drop your stuff, throw off your jacket, and fall into the comfort and warmth of your bed? That’s what I want to be for people – a sense of comfort and safety when everything’s just so overwhelming.”

That sentiment has been my guiding principle in my work in the mental health field since 2009. I strive to create a safe place for you to unload your worries, find balance, build better coping skills, and feel empowered in handling what life brings you.

I utilize an eclectic approach to therapy in order to customize your therapy based on your individual needs. I understand that there is not always a one-size-fits-all solution and want to provide the best approach suited for you. In particular, I often pull from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), solution-focused therapy, and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR).

I specialize in child and adolescent therapy with a particular focus on play therapy for children and multi-systemic therapy (MST) to work through various difficulties including school adjustment and/or refusal, grief, anxiety and depression, and adjustment to major life and family changes.

I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults of many cultural and ethnic backgrounds across settings including inpatient facilities, outpatient clinics, schools, detention centers, and in-home.

Additionally, I have developed and evaluated behavioral intervention programs in school and detention settings. I have also conducted program evaluations for outpatient agencies whose services are geared toward adolescent and adult populations. I am currently available for individual therapy, group therapy, practice consultation, and corporate consultation.

Whether working with children, adolescents, adults, or agencies, I am dedicated to helping people understand themselves better so they can live more vibrant and fulfilling lives. I hope to empower people to find their voice and live in their truth with compassion and strength.

The first step is not always easy, I know.

I’ll be here.
